Trade in equine germinal products such as semen, embryos and oocytes is on the increase. These products are frequently moved between member states and are subject to EU legislation, but there is often a lack of understanding of what legal documentation is required, and what the correct processes for moving of these germinal products should be.

To allow our breeders to have a better understanding, and so that they know what papers should exist when they buy semen or embryos, we have invited Dr Alf-Eckbert Füssel, previous Head of Sector in the Unit Animal Health, Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), EU Commission, to present what the legal requirements are, and to present practical examples to give an overview to our breeders.

Dr Füssel's presentation focussed on EU legislation and zootechnical certificates and practical applications.
