The long awaited Longines WBFSH Breeder Awards to honour the top breeders in dressage, show jumping, and eventing took place in Mannheim Germany yesterday. Held on the beautiful grounds of the Mannheim Maimarkt, the Breeder of the Year Awards were held for the first time outdoors.
Marion Moser, Longines Brand Manager Germany, presented each breeder with a timeless piece from the exquisite Master Collection. The breeders received a WBFSH certificate from WBFSH President Jan Pedersen, and a branded WBFSH Breeder of the Year blanket, kindly supplied by HKM Sports. The representatives of the studbooks of the horses were present to support their breeders – Dr Norbert Camp (Chairman of the Board Trakehner Verband), Rudi Eerdekens (Director Belgian Warmblood Studbook) and Dr Maximilian Slawinski (Vice Chairman of the Board Holsteiner Verband).
It was an honour to celebrate the awards, with an opening video of the winning breeders, allowing us to get a glimpse of the people that brought these future champions into the world, and tended to them as foals. Our breeders are the root of the sport.
Said WBFSH President Jan Pedersen, “Top-class performing horses are the result of a considered breeding program, through many generations of the horse. Behind all good horses is a skilled breeder, not a coincidence.”
While the breeders were being honoured in Mannheim, their horses continue to shine. TSF Dalera and Jessica von Bredow-Werndl (GER), reigning Olympic and European Gold medallists, recently won the FEI Dressage World Cup (CDI-W) in Leipzig, with a score of 90.836%. H&M Indiana & Malin Baryard-Johnsson (SWE) are back in Sweden after competing in St Tropez last month, taking a 5th place in the 1.50m Grand Prix (CSI3*). And London 52 won Badminton Horse Trials with his rider Laura Collett (GBR) on the same day as the Breeder Awards, achieving the lowest score in 70 years at Badminton, with only 21.4 penalties.
With a delay due to Covid-19, and therefore having to reschedule the event, it was well worth the wait for the 2021 Longines WBFSH Breeder Awards. And it was an opportunity to look back on the final WBFSH rankings of 2021, ahead of the monthly rankings that will be published again from this month onwards.
The WBFSH rankings are based on validated FEI results, and produced for the top breeders, studbooks and sires in dressage, jumping and eventing. They start from zero every year, and run on a fixed 12-month cycle, that ends on 30th September. For more information on the WBFSH rankings, visit https://www.wbfsh.com/rankings
