  • The president of the WBFSH, Jan Pedersen, was present at a ceremony at the stallion selection in Holstein, where sthe studbook expressed their gratitude to their long-term breeding leader, Dr. Thomas Nissen for a job well done, as he has now chosen to retire. The board of the WBFSH decided to appoint Thomas Nissen as an honorary member.

Jan Pedersen, president of the WBFSH was present at the stallion selection in Holstein to help honor the studbook's long-term breeding leader Dr. Thomas Nissen. Due to the current corona restrictions, only a limited number of spectators were allowed in the show arena, Holsteinhallen in Neum√ľnster. However. many studbook member and Holstein breeders were present to pay tribute to Thomas Nissen.

Representing the WBFSH Jan Pedersen made a speach to Dr. Thomas Niessen which we have translated into English:

    Ladies and gentlemen. Dear Thomas.
It is a great honor to be able to take part in the farewell to Thomas Nissen. But it is also associated with a feeling of dreariness. It is sad to learn that even the most solid and strongest foundation does not last forever. Show jumping has developed strongly during Thomas Nissen's tenure. The courses have become faster and more technical and the Holstein horses have developed accordingly. This development is due not only to capable breeders, but also to a visionary breeding manager. And the breeding success has also benefited other studbooks. The Holstein blood is very respected, recognized and in demand worldwide. Thomas Nissen was a member of the board of the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses, WBFSH, from 2006 to 2018. For me, the collaboration with Thomas was very productive. I got to know him as a very empathetic and thoroughly decent person. He personifies the term "man of honor". In his WBFSH work, he not only campaigned for the Holsteiner Verband or German breeding, but also for world breeding. With this in mind, the board decided to appoint Thomas Nissen as an honorary member of the WBFSH. Congratulations! Thomas, I wish you the best of luck and many years of well-deserved retirement!
